My business allows personal calls, etc. . . as long as they are of reasonable length. Their stance is that they are not employing slaves. They are employing people that they hope will stick around. It's the same reason they allow office pools for football and such. The morale of the employee is important.

My second job as a musican allows me to do pretty much whatever I want, as long as the show is good.
