I thought is a good idea to have a movie thread. Post about movies you like, or favourite actors and directors. Anything you wish to say about new and old movies. YouTube videos are welcome. Keep it on topic, and if you have an issue with someone’s choices, use the PM, as here it would be best to show member’s choices, more than heated debate over content, unless justified, then one post will do.

Do not list any video, which breaks TOL rules, so watch it first.

Here are two which came in the mail today. “The Great Debaters” and the “The English Patient”. I buy mainly the Blu-ray format.
I have seen “The English Patient” and liked it, I know I will like this one, and the one with Denzel, I hope I like, as I have not seen anything he is in, which I have not liked.

Debaters was entertaining. His latest, The Equalizer, is a bit graphic and violent for me as a spin off of a fairly tame television show. I wasn't prepared for it.

Have you seen The Grand Budapest hotel yet? Really enjoyed that one.

Heard of Life, but it didn't seem like my sort of movie. You can tell me if I should take a chance on it.

I really enjoyed the English Patient. Have you seen Emma Thompson's Sense and Sensibility? Terrific movie, great screenplay/adaptation by Thompson.

Also, Denzel is set as one of the stars in a remake of The Magnificent Seven. Could be good. My favorites by him were closer to the old Hollywood films, so I like The Preacher's Wife, Crimson Tide, Malcom more than the more violent films. That said I had fun with the goofy (but violent) 2 Guns and thought the Book of Eli had a good heart to it, but was missing something in execution.

and it's quirky, but if you like that sort of thing, check out In Bruges with both voldemort and mad-eye moody



and that leads me to another fave, The Guard, with brendan gleeson and Don Cheadle

"Schindler's List" is excellent. Have the regular DVD copy with DTS.

I would rate it around 9, and can see why some might give it a 10.
Would not look for the Blu-ray, there is not big sound effects, and the picture is fine a large HDTV.

It's like Saving Private Ryan, terrific film but I never want to watch either again.

I have "Saving Private Ryan" I think in Blu-ray?

Cannot rate it because I have to see it fresh. One thing good about being old, or having some dementia, one forgets, so seeing a movie is like a new experience.

I saw "the English Patient" back when, and cannot remember it now?
Will give a report later.

I liked "The Reader",and have that (DVD) and would rate it a strong 8.

I will give a strong endorsement for The Great Debaters! I rate it an 8f
An inspiring story of human accomplishment.
Denzel does it it gain with a remarkable young cast!

He was good in Django Unchained and This Boy's Life.

Denzel has the better body of work, though he's been in more really good than great movies.
