It is not the Gospel plus Calvinism, nor is it the Gospel plus Catholicism. If it is the Gospel plus something, it is not the Gospel and is another Gospel.
The Galatians were led to believe that it was the Gospel plus the law. This is why Paul wrote,
"I marvel that you are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another Gospel" Galatians 1:6.
The other Gospel was that you were to trust in Jesus plus keep the law. That doctrine is what perverted the Gospel of grace and made the Gospel of no effect. The reason being is that it puts the burden of salvation on the believer, you must keep the law. Same as you must trust in the Gospel to save, plus Calvinism, or you must trust in Christ to save you, plus your religion, whatever that might be. There is only one Gospel and it is the Gospel plus nothing.
"Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you and would pervert the Gospel of Christ" Galatians 1:7.
The true Gospel is the Gospel that justifies the ungodly, Romans 4:5 and reconciles us and the world unto God, 2 Corinthians 5:18, 19. We had nothing, absolutely nothing to do with this Gospel because it took place over 2,000 years ago. If we add anything to the saving work of Christ, it is another Gospel.
"But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other Gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed" Galatians 1:8.
It is quite clear that Paul was zealous for the purity of the Gospel. The Gospel and justification by faith alone, is the door that leads to eternal life. The Gospel, plus nothing is what honors God and glorifies his Son Jesus Christ.
