TRAINS! Anybody else like them?

They cover some beautiful scenery in the US.

This trip is Chicago to Seattle, then a layover, then down to Los Angeles, with roomettes in the sleeper car.

I used to before all the derailments in WA state. I'll likely never ride another (maybe a steam engine though).

I have ridden on Steam Trains a number of times, in fact more often than diesel. I rode a diesel only once. Talk about irony. Yes I enjoy trains, but I can't say I enjoy people that obsess over them. I find most of them a bit prickly and childish. There are a few exception to this rule.

My dad was a railroad man, so we traveled a lot by train. It's a pleasant and civilized way to go, and Mrs. Barbarian and I enjoy riding them.

By the time I was old enough to notice, the old steam engines were just about gone; electric diesels ruled.

Good to see that there's more track being laid now; high-speed rail between cities would be a great way to deal with infrastructure problems.
