Christmas Carol
The Twelve Days of Christmas

What in the world do leaping lords, French hens, swimming swans, and especially the partridge who won't come out of the pear tree have to do with Christmas?

From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics.

It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality which the children could remember.

• The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.
• Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.
• Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.
• The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.
• The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament.
• The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.
• Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit--Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.
• The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.
• Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit--Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.
• The ten lords a-leaping were the Ten Commandments.
• The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.
• The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles' Creed.

This knowledge was shared with me and I found it interesting.

Galatians 5:22 KJV But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

It is "fruit," not "fruits," and thus the "the nine"(even though you cannot count-7 are listed)as you sloppily refer to them, are considered just one fruit(singular). Thus, you missed Paul's point. But then again, you are a Roman, who merely skims through a few scriptures, occasionally, much like they do a "Domino's Pizza" menu, lackadaisically, carelessly, with disrespect, ignoring the details of the book, a book of details.

And that is Rome's error, "following" Peter, and the eleven, who were/apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ, ministering to the nation Israel, and the heathen, during the prophetic Program, and relegating Paul, "the apostle of the gentiles"(Romans 11:13 KJV), during this dispensation of the grace of God,in the mystery program, to the role of a "two bit flunky," "errand boy," a mere asterisk(*).

The RCO's favorite rock group: "Peter, ...., and Mary," as Paul was kicked out.

I know, I know...Come back to the Roman Catholic Church(Organization), come home to Rome,my dear misguided John W., the church in the wilderness, with our fathers, that predated Bam-Bam, and Pebbles......We will pray for you....

Cricket...cricket...cricket...

Thanks, I've wondered about that song's words, from time to time, but have never remembered to track that down.

Stuff that crap in a sock.

This is not the religion section. I was just sharing an interesting factoid. Go argue with someone else.
"crap in a sock," you muse, devil child? Is that like "Jesus" stuffed in a wafer cookie, as you eat "Jesus?"
