In Daniel 7:8 we read, "I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things." This little horn is the papacy. He destroyed three nations of the ten kingdoms that arose from the Roman empire. These nations, the Ostrogoths, Heruli, and Vandals had opposed the teaching and claims of the Catholic hierarchy and the supremacy of the bishop of Rome.
We are also told he had eyes like a man. This symbolizes the shrewdness, cunning, penetration, and foresight of the papacy. The mouth speaking great things represents the pompous claims of the popes.
