Which is basically the problem with autocracy and dictatorships—nothing can stop them from caprice. We have defenses against autocracy in our Constitution,¹ as long as we the People don't give up the ghost in terms of morality. Our rights are only secured by us. Which means who we elect as President gets to nominate jurists to the bench. We elected once and future President Trump again. We've got a 6-to-3 majority in the Supreme Court on many conservative issues, it comes down to proper interpretation of the Constitution and precedent (the two informing the interpretation of the other), which is greatly assisted through familiarity with the literature at the time the Constitution was drafted and ratified. Federalist Society authenticated Originalists.
