ECT Rule of thumb for interpreting Scripture .

There is a rule of thumb held by legit biblical scholars that I would like to put out there .

The rule , don't take a mountain of Scriptural passages we are sure of , and try and knock down that mountain with one uncertain passage . Instead , try and find a way to incorporate the uncertain passage into the passages we are sure of .

Here is an example of how a mountain of things we are sure of , is attempted to be knocked down by one uncertain or incorrect understanding .

Things we are certain of about understanding Faith and faithing .

1) the Hebrew has two pictorial words for communicating Faith and faithing .

2) one is the " running to the shelter of a mother birds wings ." Highlighting the continual act of running towards something .

3) two is the " leaning on a staff with all your weight behind it ". Highlighting complete trust in the staff , sustained by the continually surrendered life .

4) the Greek has two words for Faith , pistis a noun , and pisteuo the corresponding verb .

5) pistis is defined as " firm persuasion , a conviction based upon hearing ." This is the Greek word from we get our English word Faith .

6) pisteuo is defined as " a personal surrender to Him and a life inspired by such surrender ." The English language has no word to correctly translate pisteuo , no corresponding verb to the noun Faith .

7) having to choose a secondary word to translate pisteuo , the translators chose the words believe , believer and believing .

8) in the Strongs definition of pisteuo , they specifically give the disclaimer stating , " pisteuo means not just to believe ."

9) in the Vines they also give a disclaimer about the word " believe ," they state , " all this stands in contrast to BELIEF in its purely natural exercise , which consists of an opinion held in good faith without the necessary reference to its proof. "

10) pisteuo is arguably the most important word in the Scriptures for us to fulfill in order to start a relationship with Christ .

These ten facts are are just that , facts not opinions . Pisteuo was mistranslated into the English language by using the words believe believer and believing . Yet , because of not knowing , the church world thinks it can knock down this mountain of facts we are certain of with one mistranslatied word , " believe " , well , now we know !

Building a relationship with Christ on this mistranslated understanding , creates a backwards path that can't Leed to recieving the Spirit of Christ .

This rule is really only applicable to the few who are charged to perfect the saints . Although , it is also useful in our personal relationship with Christ and His Word , once they become ours that is .
