I would like to debunk as many of the myths about liberals and liberalism as possible here.
1. Liberals are atheists . Some are, but only some . Many are in fact, Christians or followers of other religions . Some are agnostics, like myself .
2. Liberals hate Christians and want to persecute them . Not at all , at least most of them . They don't want to persecute Christians , just keep
Christians and Christianity from getting power in America .
3. Liberals are amoral or wicked . No more wicked than conservatives
are.
4. Liberals are sexually promiscuous and and licentious . Again, no more so than conservatives .
5. Liberals are "moral relativists " and think there is no such thing as right and wrong . This is absurd . "Moral relativism " is nothing but a right-wing straw man . No one, or hardly anyone, thinks anything goes and it's OK to murder others , be cruel to them,lie. cheat , steal
etc . However, matters of morals and ethics are not black and white, and there are many shades of gray . Liberals realize this .
They don't condone obvious wrongdoing . However, they have different ideas about what is moral and immoral .
7. Liberals are Marxists and communists . NOT TRUE . If you are an actual Marxist or communist, you are not liberal at all - just an authoritarian fascist . Liberalism is the exact opposite of Marxism and communism . Liberals are not communists and communists are not liberals .
8. Liberals like abortion and want women to have as many abortions as possible . WRONG ! Liberals are PRO-CHOICE . They don't like abortion and don't want abortions to happen . They just realize that
when abortion is illegal it never stops women from having them and only causes many to risk their lives and health with back-alley abortionists and the poorest ones will kill themselves with self-induced ones.
Liberals want to PREVENT as many abortions as possible .
9. Liberals support gay rights because they see this as a means to undermine morality in society and make it easier for communists to take over America . This is absolutely preposterous .Denying gay people rights and persecuting them is extremely immoral and no better than racism and Anti-semitism . Gay people deserve equal rights and to be treated fairly by society, period .
10 . Liberals "hate God ". This is just plain ludicrous . Liberals aren't necessarily atheists , but they do not believe in the traditional Christian view of God as a rigid control freak who hates gay people and demands that we all suck up to him 24/7 .
11. Liberals want the government to take money from honest hard--working people while it supports lazy ones who don't want to work generously . This is also ludicrous .
Liberals realize that a social safety net is absolutely essential for any civilized nation and that to destroy it is always catastrophic .
In order for people to be able to support themselves and live secure lives , there must be enough jobs which pay enough available .
The only reason America has so many people stuck on welfare is because we DON'T have enough decent jobs . If we did, we wouldn't have so many people on government assistance .
12. Liberals hate America and are not patriotic . Absolutely not true .
They hate our military and our troops. Again, absolutely not true .
They are not jingoistic patriots who support the military brass blindly
and refuse to support the government if it does immoral things, such as Bush and Cheney's catastrophic and immoral Iraq war, started based on lies for oil money .
13. Liberals "indoctrinate youngsters in public schools with "communism" and brainwash them to hate Christianity . Also college students .
Wrong ! Liberals believe that prayer and Bible readings should be reserved for church and home, and that public schools are places for TEACHING , not preaching . Kids whose parents are not Christians must NOT be subject to religious indoctrination .
There are some left-wing extremist professors at colleges and universities, but only for certain courses, not science or the arts etc, mainly political science professors .
