Bought a Shark Duo vacuum cleaner.
For picking up dust and dirt, it's great.
For hair, it sucks big time.
We have 3 generations of women in this household, all with long hair.
The least little amount of hair would stop the brush roller from turning and cause the rubber belt to melt with a burning odor.
Couldn't vacuum for two minutes before having to stop and pull hair off of the roller.
I've never had any vacuum cleaner be this ineffective with hair pickup.

What is really frustrating is that there is no way to detach the roller for a thorough clean.
So you have to stick your fingers in the best you can to grab the hair and pull it from the roller brush.

Since that high dollar Shark couldn't handle the job, I now have a Dyson Ball Animal II upright.

What a machine!!!!
Long hair, no problem at all.
Suction power is incredible.
Has a lifetime filter so you don't have to try and find replacement filters.
I'm thrilled with it!
But it does cost around $500 here in the north TEXAS area.

Oh boy. I just get Oreck XLs. I've found some at thrift shops like brand new for under $30. As soon as the bag gets full they toss them out. I pick them up and give them to my daughter for her cleaning business. 8 lb Orecks...great vacs.

The soft roller was fine.
It was the roller behind it with the bristle brushes that would stop because of hair wrapped around it.
And there was no way to remove the bristle brush roller for cleaning.
I've never in my life had a vacuum cleaner that worked as poorly on long hair as that Shark duo upright.
I had to stop and pull hair off of it several times on each vacuum day.

But with that Dyson Ball Animal II, I have used it a few times now and have not had to stop and pull hair from the roller once.
That baby is sucking up everything with no problems at all.

You should send your Shark to AMR.

I don't think he has long hair, and he knows how to take them apart.
