REPRESENTATIVE: Someone that acts in your name and on your behalf.
"For as by one man's disobedience (Adam) many were MADE sinners, so by the obedience of one (Christ) shall many be MADE righteous" Romans 5:19.
The key word in this scripture is "MADE". We are made sinners. We do not become sinners. We are sinners without works. Just as we are MADE sinners without works, so shall we be saved without works.
Adam who is our first father and representative sinned against God and plunged the whole human race into sin.
"Wherefore as by one man sin entered the world and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned" Romans 5:12.
It is not our fault that we are sinners. Its Adam's fault. However, there is no guarantee that if you were Adam that you would not sin against God like he did. Its not our fault that we are sinners, but its our fault if we don't accept Christ as our savior.
"Therefore as by the offense of one (Adam) judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one (Christ) THE FREE GIFT came upon ALL MEN unto justification of life" Romans 5:18.
There it is. Jesus Christ is God's great FREE GIFT. Just as we were lost by a representative, so we are saved by a representative. Jesus Christ comes into the world as God's new Adam and our new humanity, 2 Corinthians 5:17. His mission is to do for us that which we cannot do for ourselves because we are sinners.
In our name and on our behalf, as our representative, he offers to God the Father a life of perfect obedience to his Holy Law. It is this life that was lived for our justification, Romans 3:26. That was not enough. Something had to be done about our sins.
"God made Jesus to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be MADE the righteousness of God in him" 2 Corinthians 5:21.
When Jesus died on the cross all of humanity died with him. God has put to death the whole sinful Adamic race in Jesus Christ, Romans 6:6 and has brought forth a new humanity in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 2 Corinthians 5:17. This is how God defeated sin, death and the devil and reconciled the world unto himself, 2 Corinthians 5:19.
God is now at peace with the world because of the doing and the dying of Jesus, Colossians 1:20. God now sees ALL THINGS in his Son Jesus Christ. It is because of what Christ has accomplished in our name and on our behalf that we can become a part of Gods new creation and his new humanity.
"If any man be "In Christ" he is a new creation: old things have passed away; behold all things have become new" 2 Corinthians 5:17.
We enter into Gods new creation by simple faith in what Jesus has accomplished for us as our representative. It is NOT by what we do, it is by what Christ has done for us that saves us and makes us new creations in Jesus Christ.
