when i was in my MSEd program, i looked forward to a class called "Teaching the Exceptional Child", expecting to learn all sorts of mad ninja-skills for teaching geniuses. No. It was for teaching special ed. kids.
We devote extraordinary resources to children who are disadvantaged, who have sub-par IQ's and other learning disabilities that mean they will often never become productive members of society.
And we devote virtually nothing extra to grow the truly exceptional mind, the student on the far right side of the bell curve
seems more than a little short-sighted to me :idunno:
