Jerusalem Day and the 2300 Days of Daniel 8
Israel will celebrate Jerusalem Day from the evening of May 23rd to evening May24th 2017. This celebrates the capture of East Jerusalem during the Six Day War in 1967. Thus this year will be the 50th Anniversary of this event. They also speak of this as the reunification of Jerusalem.
Jesus in the Mount Olivet prophecy clearly prophesied that Jerusalem would be conquered by the Roman army, and this was fulfilled in AD70. He also stated that the inhabitants of Jerusalem and Judea would go into captivity, and that Jerusalem would be trodden down for a long period of time.
Luke 21:20-24 (KJV): 20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. 21 Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto. 22 For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. 23 But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give milk, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. 24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
Now these events were clearly fulfilled in AD70, when the Roman armies besieged and captured Jerusalem and destroyed the Temple. The Arch of Titus in Rome commemorates this victory with an engraving of the Jews taken into captivity to become slaves. Prominent in the depiction is a Jew carrying the 7-Branched Lampstand, in effect symbolizing the putting out of the religion of Judaism and the nation of Israel, through whom God had previously used to shine forth the light of his truth to the nations.
Now these events were also prophesied in Daniel:
Daniel 8:9-14 (KJV): 9 And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land. 10 And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them. 11 Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. 12 And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered. 13 Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? 14 And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.
This speaks of the overthrow of Jerusalem and a long period of down treading. From Jesus’ quotation and allusion in Luke 21, this clearly speaks about the Roman overthrow of Jerusalem and the Temple in AD70. This also speaks here of the crucifixion of Jesus by the Roman authorities.
What are we to make of the 2300 days of Daniel 8:14? If we take the principal event in the vision, the overthrow of the Medo-Persian Ram by the Grecian Ram headed up by Alexander the Great in BC 334-333 and add the 2300 years we come to AD 1967, when Jerusalem was liberated from the treading down of the Gentiles, and once again came under the control of the Jews.
Kind regards
