Tom Homan, the former acting director of ICE, slammed California and their "sanctuary city" policies for the death of police officer at the hands of a suspect who was in the country illegally.
Homan was speaking on Fox News Friday about the murder of Newman Police Cpl. Ronil Singh during a traffic stop the morning after Christmas.
"Well look if it's true he's in the country illegally, we can agree on one thing, California provided him sanctuary," said Homan of Gustavo Perez Arriaga, who was apprehended by police over the murder.
"So let's talk about that first," he said. "California is a sanctuary state, Governor Brown's proud of that."
"Kevin DeLeon, the state representative pushed that policy," he explained, "the California Sheriff's Association came out against it, saying it would result in release of criminals to the streets."
"But when you have the Attorney General of the state of California doing a news conference and threatening employers," Homan added, "don't work with ICE during worksite enforcement operation, when you have a sanctuary law, it's not a coincidence that California has the highest population of illegal aliens in that state."
"So they provided him sanctuary," he concluded.
Homan defended the policy of constructing a border wall as an important piece of immigration enforcement, while admitting that he didn't know how the suspect gained entry into the country.
"I mean when you got local officials and state officials doing what they're doing," Homan explained, "pushing back on immigration enforcement, not cooperating with ICE, things like this are going to happen".........
