It is Eid al-Adha, the Feast of the Sacrifice. Also the time that one goes on a pilgrimage to Mecca- the Hajj.

Know anybody who's celebrating? Know anyone who has been to Mecca? There are some interesting customs regarding the Hajj.

Just another works-based religion like Judaism. The two sons of Abraham working real hard to get to heaven.

You are taking your view of what a religion is about, and pasting it onto cultures you don't understand. You think that the purpose of religion is to get to Heaven. and assume that is what Judaism is about too (I will focus on Judaism, since I am more familiar with it). The assumption is wrong. The main point of the Jewish law is to live correctly.
