The fact that God was in Christ reconciling us and the world unto himself, should be the end of Calvinism, Catholicism and all religions. But it won't be, simply because people love their religion more than they love God. Just as the Pharisees loved the law more than they loved God. People are infatuated with their religion because their religion is about them.
HOW DID JESUS RECONCILE US AND THE WORLD UNTO GOD?
Did Jesus reconcile us and the world unto God by doing something in us? If that were true then there would not have been a need for the incarnation, God could have just sent his Holy Spirit from heaven into the hearts of those that believed and converted them to himself. No physical Jesus required. That teaching is about as anti-Gospel and anti-Christ as it gets. The Holy Spirit is NOT the savior. Both Calvinist and Catholics water down the physical work of Jesus Christ as the savior.
"That he might reconcile both unto God IN ONE BODY by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby" Ephesians 2:16.
When Jesus was crucified on the cross, we were crucified with him.
"Knowing this that our old man (Adam) is crucified with him" Romans 6:6.
Spiritually, we have been put to death in Christ. Spiritually, we have been resurrected with Christ, Romans 6:5. God now sees us as NEW CREATIONS in Jesus Christ, 2 Corinthians 5:17. No religion was needed. We can now truthfully say that we have been reconciled unto God by Jesus Christ, 2 Corinthians 5:18, 19. No religion was needed. The law has been fulfilled, Matthew 5:18. All sin has been atoned for, 1 John 2:2. This is why Paul wrote, "And you are complete in him" Colossians 2:10.
While Jesus was dying on the cross he said, "It is finished". What he meant by that was all of the conditions that were necessary for the salvation of fallen man had been met. So that Paul could say, "And has raised us up together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus" Ephesians 2:6.
Your reconciliation is sure. All that one has to do is receive it. if you don't receive it, it is not yours and you are still under his wrath. This is why Paul wrote, "We pray you in Christ's stead, BE YE RECONCILED UNTO GOD" 2 Corinthians 5:20.
