FBI Director Christopher Wray: McCabe's Firing Not Political

FBI Director Christopher Wray — asked by NBC News in an exclusive interview broadcast Wednesday about the termination last week of Deputy Director Andrew McCabe — said he would never allow politics to affect the way he runs the agency.

"I am committed to doing things objectively and independently and by the book." Wray told NBC News' Pete Williams. "I think that has to extend not just to our investigations, our intelligence analysis, but it also has to extend to personnel decisions and disciplinary decisions."

Wray said he was not addressing the details of McCabe's termination, but maintained that he was committed to not allowing politics to be a factor in making decisions at the FBI.

"I want to be careful about what I can say about the process" of McCabe's firing, Wray said. "But I will tell you that my commitment to making sure that our process is followed, that it relies on objective input, and that most importantly, it is not based on political or partisan influence is something I am utterly unyielding on."

The interview came just days after Attorney General Jeff Sessions, late Friday night, accepted the recommendation that he fire McCabe — who took the reins of the agency in the turbulent days after the abrupt firing of James Comey as director — two days before he was to retire and become eligible for full pension benefits.

Though McCabe — who had been attacked by President Donald Trump — stepped down as deputy director in late January, he remained on the federal payroll, planning to retire on Sunday, his 50th birthday. The firing places his full federal pension in jeopardy.

In a statement released after the termination was announced, McCabe said: "This attack on my credibility is one part of a larger effort not just to slander me personally, but to taint the FBI, law enforcement and intelligence professionals more generally. It is part of this administration’s ongoing war on the FBI and the efforts of the special counsel investigation, which continue to this day. Their persistence in this campaign only highlights the importance of the special counsel’s work."

In a segment of his interview with NBC News released Tuesday night, Wray wouldn't address the topic, saying that he didn’t feel any political pressure and that he was "committed to doing this job by the book."

Who will the Dems attack now to try to undermine the truth of the firing of McCabe?

NBC?

The new head of the FBI?

Or will they finally accept the fact that McCabe lied under oath and continues to lie?

Let's see... Trump asked Comey for his personal loyalty, not loyalty to America. Comey declined.

Comey gets fired.

McCabe is asked for his personal loyalty to Trump, not to America. McCabe declines.

McCabe is fired.

Wray gives Trump personal loyalty.

Wray then supports the Trump narrative.

O.K. We got it.

Look closer, he didn't say what you're claiming, which makes you either a dupe or a liar.

Wray said he was not addressing the details of McCabe's termination, but maintained that he was committed to not allowing politics to be a factor in making decisions at the FBI.

So...he's not addressing the McCabe firing. He sidestepped the question. Which makes sense, given that the decision was made by Sessions, not him. The decision was out of his hands and over his head.

FBI Director Christopher Wray: McCabe's Firing Not Political

"Jerry Shugart" seems to forget that this President made it abundantly clear to the Attorney General and the Department of Justice that he wanted Andrew McCabe and his other "enemies" punished - disregarding the fact that in a democracy they are supposedly independent from "political" influence!

Even McCabe's resignation didn't satisfy Trump's desire for revenge - he celebrated and mocked the former FBI Deputy Director when he was fired just 26 hours before he was scheduled to retire!

Nope, the internal affairs of the FBI recommended he be fired. Switch news if you can't get it straight.

Trump wants lots of stuff he isn't getting. The FBI kicked McCabe to the curb, and you guys don't like it. :chuckle:

The inspector general issued the report recommending firing, but they can't actually take action. Sessions is the one who actually did the firing, which was absolutely within his discretion, meaning it was Session's decision. Get your own facts straight.

We don't know exactly what was in the report, but we likely will, eventually. They have been subpoenaed by Congress. That's why I've said repeatedly that I'm reserving judgement on McCabe. Still, the process by which he was fired was extremely irregular, and that in itself raises questions.

And none of that addresses my previous comment, which was that "Jerry's" thread title is an outright fabrication.

Trump Tweets admit McCabe firing was political:

On Saturday afternoon, President Trump acknowledged that the firing of deputy FBI director Andrew McCabe — a move made hours before the 21-year veteran of the bureau was eligible for his pension — was motivated by politics.

“The Fake News is beside themselves that McCabe was caught, called out and fired,” Trump tweeted. “How many hundreds of thousands of dollars was given to wife’s campaign by Crooked H friend, Terry M, who was also under investigation? How many lies? How many leaks? Comey knew it all, and much more!”

No wonder his lawyers don't want him to testify under oath.

Trump admitted the Comey firing was political, as well...

Trump admits Comey firing related to Russia probe\\

Comey was fired on 9 May, and initially the White House cited his handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server as the reason for his termination, releasing a memo authored by deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein as a basis for this action. However, several days later, in an interview with NBC News’s Lester Holt, Trump contradicted his administration and cited “this Russia thing” as the reason for Comey’s sacking.

The same people who accuse Trump of attacking the credibility of the FBI are the same ones who attack the credibility of the Director of the FBI because he said the following:

"FBI Director Christopher Wray — asked by NBC News in an exclusive interview broadcast Wednesday about the termination last week of Deputy Director Andrew McCabe — said he would never allow politics to affect the way he runs the agency."

No one is doing that.
