"And Can It Be"

TEXT:
Charles Wesley
MUSIC:
Scott Roley

1. And can it be that I should gain
An interest in the Savior's blood?
Died He for me who caused His pain!
For me who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be That
Thou, my God, should die for me?

Chorus: Amazing love! How can it be
That Thou, my God, should die for me!
Amazing love! How can it be
That Thou, my God, should die for me!

2. He left His Father's throne above,
So free, so infinite His grace!
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam's helpless race.
'Tis mercy all, immense and free,
For O my God, it found out me!

3. Long my imprisoned spirit lay,
Fast bound in sin and nature's night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray;
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

4. No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine;
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

Oh man, so many that I just love!

But if I were destined to forget all but one, I think I'd like to keep Amazing Grace.

Love the words, and love the tune. It can be sung slow and solemn or pepped up and joyous.

Do you ever think about others that reject it and the song has no meaning to them? TOL did it to me. It's glorious and kind of sad at the same time.

Not when I'm singing or playing it.
But yeah I do think of folks that reject it and I go from 'how sad' thoughts to 'how stupid!' thoughts.

TOL did it to me. It's glorious and kind of sad at the same time.
TOL, by far, has some of the best grace studies around.
Every time I see a grace thread, I wish SOZO was back.

Great choice! Since I first heard it I always loved the song "Why Me Lord?" written by Kris Kristofferson:

Why me Lord what have I ever done to deserve even one of the pleasures I've known
Tell me Lord what did I ever do
That was worth loving you or the kindness you've shown
Lord help me Jesus I've wasted it so help me Jesus I know what I am
Now that I know that I've needed you so help me Jesus my soul's in your hand

Try me Lord if you think there's a way I can try to repay all I've taken from you
Maybe Lord I can show someone else what I've been through myself
On my way back to you
Lord help me Jesus...
Lord help me Jesus...
Jesus my soul's in your hand

By the way, I will always be grateful for the kind words which you said to my son about me. AMAZING GRACE!

Oh yes, I really like that one too.
Country music has a lot of gospel type songs.

Many times it's hard for me to sing a whole gospel song because I tear up and keep trying to sing through my sobs.

By the way, I will always be grateful for the kind words which you said to my son about me. AMAZING GRACE!
I know the value of having parents that encourage bible reading to not be neglected. They encouraged me to read scripture myself, and not rely on what others told me it said (not even them).
My father would use all kinds of poetic language to describe the bible and it's importance.
One was "It's GOD's love letter to mankind". I thought that one was so precious.

I had friends that could not talk to their parents about the bible.
If anything was said or asked concerning the bible, the parent would roll their eyes and wave them off (as if to say "Don't bother me with that crap").
And the first thing I would do when I got home was to hug my mother and father so tight that they could hardly get me to let go!

So it thrills my soul to see a child and parent that can freely study THE most important lesson of their life together.
