It doesn't have to be, so long as both sides are courteous and strive to communicate clearly.
On somethings we have to "agree to disagree", on others we can have interesting discussions to explore why people think the way they do.
If you do not wish to discuss things with non-Christians, then feel free not to participate to that extent.
