The term "cook your goose" goes back many centuries and basically means that you have done something or believe something that is going to bring trouble on yourself, or is going to "cook your goose".
The Bible teaches that there are doctrines and beliefs about God and his Son Jesus Christ that will either save you and justify you, or will damn you to hell. In the Old Testament era they were saved and justified by faith in God's promise of a savior.
"Abraham believed God and it was counted unto him for righteousness" Romans 4:3.
Things have not changed. We are still justified by faith in God's promise of a savior. Now that the savior has arrived we look back to when he was here on the earth. The Old Testament saints looked forward to the fulfillment of God's promise of a savior. All are justified by faith.
Here are some of the doctrines and beliefs that will "cook your goose" in the judgment.
1. The belief that God imposes salvation on some and damns the rest to hell.
This Calvinist doctrine makes God unjust. You will not be saved if you believe that God is unjust. To believe this doctrine is to believe that God is a sinner. This doctrine means that God is NOT holy, just and righteous as he claims to be, but means that he is divisive and cannot be trusted.
2. The belief that Jesus was just a man.
Jesus was God's Son before the foundation of the world, Colossians 1:15-17. Jesus also said, "I and the Father are one" John 10:30. If Jesus was just a man that means that he is a sinner just like us. Sinners cannot save sinners, nor can sinners save themselves. God requires two things for the salvation of fallen man. 1. A life of perfect obedience according to his Holy Law. 2. A perfect atonement for man's sins and the sins of the whole world, 1 John 2:2. Both of these requirements have been met in Jesus Christ.
3. The belief that Jesus did not atone for the sins of the whole world.
This is another Calvinist belief that will "cook your goose" in the judgment. If Jesus did not atone for the sins of the whole world then Jesus is NOT Lord. If you believe that Jesus is NOT Lord you will die in your sins, John 8:24. It is imperative that one believes that Jesus is Lord if they are to be saved.
4. The belief that you must participate in your own salvation by works or obedience to the law.
Sinners cannot save sinners, nor can sinners save themselves. The reason that the road to hell is broad is because "Many there be that go that way" Matthew 7:13. People want to believe what they want to believe and do what they want to do. I have had much more success witnessing to people that don't have a religion than those that do. Those that think that they can save themselves by their works and obedience to the law will be in the "Lord, Lord, didn't we" group, Matthew 7:21-23.
5. The belief that there will not be a judgment of sins, nor a hell.
This is pretty much in the same category as atheism. To believe this is to believe that there is no God. If there is no God, then how can there be a judgment and a hell? It is called systematic unbelief. If you believe that there will not be a judgment or a hell, then let us live like the devil and who needs Jesus Christ. Much of today's theology is designed to eliminate ones need for Jesus Christ.
6. The belief that there is no God.
I don't believe that there are atheist that claim that there is no God. What they are, are God haters. To say that there is no God is the same as denying your own existence. You can no more deny the existence of God, than you can deny your own existence. Every heart beat and every breath of air comes from God. "The fool has said in his heart there is no God". To deny the existence of God and his Son Jesus Christ will "cook your goose" in the judgment.
7. No faith in God or his Son Jesus Christ.
There are many people that believe in God and his Son Jesus Christ, but they are not saved. They have head knowledge of God and Jesus Christ, but they have never been born again by the word of God, which is the Gospel, 1 Peter 1:23. To be born again means that you are a lost sinner that needs to be saved by the doing and the dying of Jesus Christ. "Whosoever that shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" Romans 10:13. If you don't call on him to save you, he may not know who you are in the judgment and you will hear those dreadful words, "Depart from me, I never knew you" Matthew 7:23.
