Do God's commands paint a picture of who God is?

When we spend time reading the Bible and studying the commands of God, do we gain an understanding of who God is, meaning what He is like? Do we truly know God? And can we know God by studying His commands? The commands of God are about love of God and love of our neighbor. Can we deduce from this that God is love and wants us to know His love for us as a part of His creation?

God's holy character is able to be understood through his commands. If God had never given us rules we would never understand the holiness of God. Even at the beginning of time God gave them one rule for them to live by and reflect on. And when we see ourselves living according to the statutes laid down in scripture we can see ourselves growing in holiness. We become more like God, which is a beautiful thing when you think about it. The fact that God gives man a second chance is amazing.

For that which has not been a reflection of His character on our part as His creation we must repent. To come into agreement with God's word, as pertains to our conduct, is to have our character be more like God's character. Also, many do not understand that Jesus is the only way any person can be saved.
