And will He return on the 6000th year?
You may have seen this theory before but whether you have or haven't what do you think?
The Bible dates the earth to nearly 6000 years old (At least the Masoretic (Protestant) text does)), which means Jesus could have died (and resurrected) on the 4000th year. If Jesus does return on the 6000th year to reign for 1000 years, this would complete a 7000 years time frame. There are various verses that allude to this plan and while not date setting, as this about the year and not the day or hour, it could be worth considering. Here are some of those verses:
Revelation 20:4
They had not worshipped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
Matthew 12:8
For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.
2 Peter 3:8
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the LORD a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day
Psalm 90:4
A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.
So here you can see how the Biblical week of 6 days of work (man's struggle) and a day to rest (The Millennium reign) is reflected in the 7000 year plan. There are also many allusions throughout the Bible to Jesus returning on the third day (The third millennium after his death):
Luke 13:32
And he said unto them, “Go ye and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out demons, and I do cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I shall be perfected”.
Hosea 6:2
After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will restore us, that we may live in his presence.
There are many other allusions throughout the Bible to this six thousand year process, such as when Jacob took care of Laban’s sheep and goats for six years and set the healthy flocks free in the seventh year.
Another time this prophetic day terminology is used is in these verses:
John 4:35-41
35 Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. 36 Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. 37 Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true. 38 I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labour.” 39 Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. 41 And because of his words many more became believers.
Just as Jesus was with the Samaritans for two days, He will be with the Gentiles for two thousand years and if six thousand years is equated to twelve months it would mean that four months equates to two thousand years, just as Jesus said; “It’s still four months until harvest!” Jesus also met the Samaritan woman at the 6th hour and she was on her 6th husband but she was about to become a believer in the Messiah; her 7th husband at the 7th hour. There are many more like this.
Also some Christians believe that the last generation will see the end times as this verse alludes to:
Mathew 24:34
“Truly I say to you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.”
And in Psalms we read that a generation can last eighty years:
Psalm 90:10
Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.
Israel finally became an independent nation again after the Israeli War for Independence which lasted from 15 May 1948 to 20 July 1949, a war that lasted nine months and which is alluded to in this verse:
Isaiah 66:8
Yet no sooner is Zion in labour than she gives birth to her children.
80 years from 1949 is 2029 which is about 2000 years from Jesus' death.
