Delusional Penn State fans were visited by the good idea fairy. Joe Paterno is back.

Joe Paterno did wrong. In case you forgot. His assistant coach was molesting boys for a long time at The Pennsylvania State University under the football program. Joe and his boss the AD talked about it and Joe decided those things don't happen, he didn't believe it. Paterno was fired by school board, an unusual move because the AD and the President were also fired. Paterno died very shortly after his dismissal. The AD and President are facing some serious felony charges as they are "mandated reporters".

Now that the recap is over, students are making another statue of Paterno. His original statue was removed after it was uncovered what he did in covering up a child molester by not reporting to authorities. Yes, he was your football coach for 40 years. Guess what, he did wrong, and it was terribly wrong.

Last year, the NCAA gave back former Penn State coach Joe Paterno's football wins, vacated following the Jerry Sandusky child-abuse scandal. But so far the iconic bronze statue of the beloved coach that was removed from outside Beaver Stadium in 2012 remains hidden in a "secure location"

The players won those games, and they deserve to be saluted for it.

Paterno debased his own legacy by trying to protect it at the expense of those child victims. He deserves no statues. No accolades. And those Penn State administrators deserve to be properly and severely punished for covering up very serious and damaging crimes against children.

But the real lesson in the end is that these football programs have become too powerful, and generate too much greed to be associated with higher education. It's time to either separate them, or minimize their importance in the college agenda and experience.

Huh. PureX got something right. Well done. And not that it takes away what Jerry Sandusky did, but the NCAA punished Penn State to the tune of a $60,000,000 fine. Something that seems nearly inconceivable. There has been some squabbling over the money, but it is paid. The rift was what to do and who collects after Penn State loses a monster share of wealth. The collector says it will be going to sex abuse victims, which is about the only place it should go.
