"And you are complete in him (Jesus Christ) who is the head of all principality and power" Colossians 2:10.
Being complete "In Christ" is the result of the Gospel. Jesus comes into the world as the new Adam and humanities representative. In our name and on our behalf, he offers to God the Father a life of perfect obedience according to his holy law, Hebrews 1:3. In our name and on our behalf, he atones for our sins and the sins of the whole world, 1 John 2:2. Because of the doing and the dying of Jesus we can now stand before God's holy court as complete in Christ.
Before Jesus died on the cross he said, "It is finished" John 19:30. What did Jesus mean by that? I believe that he meant all that he had done to provide salvation for fallen man was finished. The law had been fulfilled, Matthew 5:18. Sin had been atoned for, 1 John 2:2. Jesus had victoriously met all that God demanded for the salvation of fallen man, Colossians 2:15. This is why Paul wrote, "And You Are Complete in Him" Colossians 2:10.
This also means that we have been justified by Christ. "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" Romans 5:1. We are justified by faith alone because we have been justified by Christ alone. Jesus is our justifier, Romans 3:26. Our works and our obedience cannot justify. We can only be justified by someone that is without sin.
Because of the doing and the dying of Jesus God sees us as perfect and complete "In Christ". This also means that we have been reconciled unto God by Jesus Christ, 2 Corinthians 5:18, 19. When God looks at us all that he can see is his Son Jesus Christ, "For you are dead and your life is hid with Christ in God" Colossians 3:3. This means that our salvation is sure and secure.
Now consider this. If you are complete "In Christ" and if Jesus has fulfilled the law for you and has atoned for your sins and reconciled you to God, then what good is your religion? Can your religion reconcile you to God? Can your religion atone for your sins? Why not just drop your religion and trust in Christ alone?
