    Suicidality and the Second Amendment

Big picture, with annual gun deaths numbering around 45,000 in America, we already know the two biggest causes. The first one is suicidality. And the next biggest one is organized crime. One and two. And just in case anybody failed to notice, all the headline mass shooting massacres are...

    Guns!

I fired one of those once (semiauto version). Dream to shoot. Expensive rounds though. Never shot with one of those but if I lived in a state that permitted me to own one, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

    Green Energy

And if that thing contributes to climate change, my answer's the same.

    Green Energy

Getting natural gas piped right into your home is one of the signs of modernity. It's outstanding. Even if climate change is real, and even if natural gas is a big cause of it, two very big if's, we should still be using it whenever and wherever possible. Fix the climate crisis some other way.

    Fasting thread

I've just read about needing to watch electrolytes, and I've been preemptively eating salt as a result without ever reaching an observable deficit, thought for this go-round I'd push a little to see if I could force a response. Uncomfortable revealing these details, for anonymity. Suffice to...

    Lifting thread

During this experiment . . . I've been cheating, full disclosure. I started this thread to talk about lifting in general, and in particular my own workout, which was exclusive to the deadlift. My thinking then was that I wanted to keep lifting to a minimum, time-wise and also in the number of...

    Fasting thread

'Working on a fast rn, tonight will be 72 hours. Nothing but water, black coffee, and my meds. I haven't had any salt yet on this one, that's new for me (usually I'm having a pickle or two), but so far no signs of diminished electrolytes (muscle cramps). I'll have some salt water today if I...

    Lifting thread

So I did 260 LBS last week: 1. 5 2. 3 Along with my strength not being very good after this 108-hour fast week, also my form was just not very good, so this week I started by loading over 400 LBS on the bar and applied as much safe force as I could, fully knowing I would not lift the weight...

Who said you should do that? That happens at baptism /faith. That's how you become gold, but gold still needs refining.

What Happens in Purgatory? Tim Staples

The refiner's fire. Only pure gold is fit for Heaven, is all. And I doubt Purgatory will be much different from this life, it'll just take as long as it takes, to purge out all the dross from our personality and soul.

What Happens in Purgatory? Tim Staples

Is it? Or is it just your stupid user name which you yourself don't even recognize when you see it, because it's a mischaracterization of you, even though you chose it. So you do go to church? And invite people to church with you? OK, well that's something. It's not nothing.

Mortal sin, free will, and going to Communion

Not His doctrine. His sacrifice. I thought you were freed from sin. You equate being Catholic with sin? Yikes.

What Happens in Purgatory? Tim Staples

Hoping you commit sin. Nice. How are you preaching the Gospel? Are you bringing new converts to church? Or does church-going not really figure in to your view of what it means to be a Christian?

Mortal sin, free will, and going to Communion

Sigh. The scrupulosity's strong with this one. My point stands. You can't accuse Catholics like how you do, without also accusing Jesus Christ Himself. It starts with obeying your Lord. Go to Mass.

Fine. That doesn't distinguish you from Catholicism. Like I said, that might have been what your experience of Catholicism was, but that doesn't mean you weren't mistaken. Shrug.

Plain. What's the difference between you and Catholics then.
