Jesus said "you have not chosen Me, I have chosen you...."
I understand why Christians believe that it was themselves who decided for Christ, they made [they suppose] a "freewill" decision.
When Peter cried "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God" Jesus answered and said "blessed are you Simon bar Jonah for flesh and blood did not reveal this unto you but My Father in heaven"
Now Peter did not know that the Father had revealed it unto him, there was no flash of lightening in the sky, no choir of angels, pealings of bells. God is so gentle in His dealings Peter thought it was his own thought.
It is the same thing Paul said that when we are saved the Holy Spirit comes into our heart crying "Abba Father"
Of course it is to us that God is Abba Father.
The apostles never speak about them as having made a decision for Christ, or they choosing Him. Always it is God hath chosen us
