What does it mean "to love"?
If I say I love God, does that mean I have a genuine choice? Some would tell you that God has pre-determined who will be saved. If that were true, would those who are predestined actually love God?
NO they would not. To love must involve a choice, and requires the ability to choose not to love. Otherwise, the concept of love is meaningless. It would be closer to compulsion than love.
If I programmed a robot to tell me every day "I love you", would that make me feel loved? It would not. If God "unconditionally elected" us with His "irrestible grace" it would also be empty and meaningless.
Imagine a man who kidnaps a woman and forces her to live in his home. He might imagine that she loves him, but in reality she only stays because she cannot get away. If he leaves the house and doesn't chain her up, and she has the freedom to go or stay, then her choice to stay would mean something.
