Damion's work bench

My grandson asked for a work bench for Christmas. Mommy was talking about buying him one but I told her I would rather build it. When he unwrapped his presents he opened a miter saw and a few other tools. He helped me cut all the boards for the legs and I put it together while they were out today. All the wood came from recycled pallets, except for the peg board which I got for $2 and some old counter top that I obtained from scrap.

That is a great gift for him, Delmar! It shows how much his Grandpa loves him.

My wife saw some used pallet creation on Pinterest and got me started .... things have gotten a little out of hand. Our porch is full of the stuff now.

I LOVE making stuff for the kids in our clan! Over the years I've made baby cradles that doubled as rocking toys, easels with blackboards on them, practice balance beams, toy boxes shaped like treasure chests, and all sorts of stuff. It's wonderful to see the surprise on their faces that someone would actually MAKE something for them. Not just buy it. And it does my own heart good to spend the time making something for someone I care about.

It's sad that our modern consumer society allows so few of us the time to do things personally, for each other, these days. Used to be nearly all children's toys and furniture and cloths were made for them by their parents and grandparents. Something that in itself would be a lesson in love, ingenuity, and gratitude.

'Good on ya', friend.

Wonderful gift of your time, talent and love! It doesn't get any better than that!

Del, I showed this pic (from Face Book) to my nephew. He said that he wishes that his step-father had done something like this for him and that he wants to do the same kind of things for his future sons and daughters.

venture! Blessings to you for having the imagination to
come up with such a, really nice gift!

My hope is that the work bench, plus a little bit of training will inspire him to do the same for the next generation.

I agree. Once we made a cool house out of a refrigerator box. Painted on shingles, shutters, and flowers around the door. The kids had it for years and had so much fun. I miss that little house.
