Growing up, I didn't like it. People didn't know what it was. They still don't. It wasn't until I was out west that I knew what the chilli pepper was. To some, it is kidney beans, stewed tomatoes, some ground hamburger and a little chilli powder from a can.

Except for the stewed tomatoes (I use tomato juice instead) and I also use hot sauce in mine, that's my chili recipe. I put it all in my crock pot and let it cook at least eight hours on low.

Gotta use hot pepper rings, AND the juice from the jar of hot pepper rings. Plus all the other usual stuff.

That is proper. Of course tonight as I was preparing it I did the short version because of time. Range to medium-high, then lowered to low as it boiled.

Actually the Costco chili (cattle drive) is pretty darn good, especially over spaghetti with onions and cheese, Cincinnati style.

I like Chrys's recipe too. When I don't have hot sauce, mine is similar to his.

Steak n Shake is a place I don't patronize. I can make my own shakes.

Chrysostom: No kidney beans for me, in anything. They are my kryptonite.

You must be a yankee...It aint chili with kidney beans...Yuk!

I like mine with kidney beans. My mom used to make it with pinto beans. I can't stand pintos because my mom would make them so much while I was growing up.

Yeah, well I didn't know any better. What I do like to do is chop up a white onion and put it in the finished product. It is better than having crackers in it.
