So I recently bought a Cannondale hybrid bike for commuting to work. Today I commuted to work fo the first time. And I had a blast. My commute is about 10 miles each way. Who else commutes to work on a bicycle?
I could never do that. I'd be too worried about the traffic. Too many drivers are just NOT looking at the road!

I know lots of people here in Pittsburgh who tried it, but it's either too hot, too cold, raining, or snowing to do it.

I once was at a meeting, and this guy shows up in a suit, but he was literally soaking wet from sweat because he just biked about 10 miles, and it was 85 degrees outside.

85 degrees + suit and tie + bike 10 miles = bad scene

Where I live there are bike lanes everywhere. Also, the route I am taking is almost all trails where there are no cars.

I live close enough to my workplace that I'd rather just walk than ride bike. Depending on my location I'd like to bike. It's not very practical for me though. I have to dress up for work. I wouldn't really want to bike in my work clothing and taking a change of clothes isn't very convenient either. My workplace doesn't have a locker room or anything. Of course none of that stuff is insurmountable but I don't see myself ever biking unless my work attire was more casual or I had a better place to change and get cleaned up a bit before starting work.

As I said, I can easily walk but I don't often do that, which is bad on me. Part of it is that I often go in pretty early and I'd just rather not walk that early.

I did for a while when I was younger, and it was great. However, I wouldn't do it today because I'm more concerned about the risk of accidents. Over the years, I've seen too many people injured that way, some fatally.

Be safe.

A bike has been my primary mode of transportation since I got a divorce from my SSN in the mid 90's. The bod has benefited greatly and I get 30 miles to a can of beans.

That's cool!

We live in a big biking town. There are 19 miles of bike trails throughout the region, but many people ride their bikes on the highway to get to them and/or to commute to work. There's not much of a shoulder on the highways here and many times they can barely be seen riding in the rain at night. I think they're crazy for risking it! I'd much rather see them rack the bikes to the trail or take a motor vehicle to work.

And holy smokes! I just looked up the brand of bike you got! They are a pretty penny, but so nice!

I bike every morning at sunrise
until winter makes it too difficult
my ride includes a parking ramp
and
to avoid using the brakes
I do figure eights on the way down
and
that improves balance
which
is important when you get old

I love my bike

How long does the 10 mile ride take you?

In 1974, I got an Apollo 5 Speed for my 10th birthday. It was the coolest bike a kid could have back then.

WATCH YOUR BACK........

THERE MAY BE A DRUNK DRIVER BEHIND YOU IN A HURRY TO GO TO WORK.

Many people on bikes are killed each year.......

That is alway a risk. But in my case more than half of the commute is on trials where there are no cars. The original route I wanted to take (almost all trials) I won't be able to take until February 2016 since part of the trail is closed for road repairs. Once the trail repairs are complete about 9 of the 10 mile commute will be on trails away from cars.

Do you ever have to ride at night?
My wife prefers that I do not ride at night. So this gives me a good excuse to leave work in the late afternoon. :p
