The vaccine was proven- statistically- to work in controlled clinical trials.
The time correlation is clear. The fact that the vaccine prevents infection was already proven in the clinical trials. Those two facts indicate that the vaccine did the trick.
Is it a 100% mathematical proof? No. Maybe aliens came down to Earth and did something. Maybe the virus got religion...

I simply don't understand you. It's a vaccine! It stops most people from getting sick at all, and the few who get sick don't get very sick, because their immune systems are primed to deal with the virus. It's a vaccine!
hmm. Maybe because it will take a few years until everybody is vaccinated? Or because the vaccine isn't 100% effective? Or the treatment will be useful in other diseases? Or they started the work before the vaccine was available? or...
