Not sure. I believe in making sure they have reliable evidence. Have executions really deterred murder. A number of these people have mental problems. Some have even committed suicide after their crime.
I remember when DNA was beginning to be used for evidence for crimes. A 190 people on death row since 1973 were cleared. Need to be sure to have correct evidence for a death penalty.
"Then he will pray to God, and He will accept him, So that he may see His face with joy, And He will restore His righteousness to that person" (Job 33:26).

Commentaries I have read describe the earthly nature. But not much on how to put it to death.
